Arete collects as little as it can. This page says exactly what that is, for this website and for the app.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we keep your first name, your email, your answer to the question if you gave one, and which link brought you to the page. We use them to invite you to the beta and to learn who Arete is for. We never sell your email or share it with advertisers.

This site has no analytics, no ads and no tracking scripts. Signups are stored with Supabase, our database provider, and our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs.

The app

You sign in with Apple. Arete does not ask Apple for your name or your email, so Apple gives us an anonymous account ID instead.

For each day of a campaign we store whether you read the passage and whether you did the action, with the date and your streak, plus anything you type into the feedback box at the end, which themes, passages, stories and keep-reading excerpts you open, and on which days you highlighted a line, wrote in your journal or reopened a highlight, never what or where. That is how your progress comes back on a new phone, and how we tell whether the beta works.

Your journal and highlights stay on your iPhone. They are never sent to us, so they don’t come back on a new phone.

Reminders are scheduled on your phone, and we don’t see them. If you send feedback or crash reports through TestFlight, Apple shares them with us.

Settings, then Delete account, removes your account and everything tied to it, and your journal on this phone. Arete first revokes its Sign in with Apple access, then deletes your data from our database.
